MINUTES OF THE WEST NORWALK ASSOCIATION
MAY 6, 2013

Board Members present were: Gay Mac Leod, Linda Forcellina, Ken D’Arinzo, Galen Wells, Regina Krummel, Anthony Carrano, Ron Paladino, Brian Forchino, Phyllis Weisberg, Frank Forker, and Mike Lesko.  Guests were: James Forcellina, Paul Cantor, Yvonne Lopaur, Scott Kimmich, Kate Tepper, Bill Krummel, Bill Wrenn and Betsy Wrenn.

Co- Presidents Gay Mac Loud and Linda Forcellina called the meeting to order at 7:32  and welcomed the Board and the guests to the meeting.

At Paul Cantor’s request, he and his group were allocated 10 minutes but spoke for 15 minutes at the start of the meeting regarding the driving range. Paul Cantor read a statement that criticized the information provided to West Norwalkers on our web site.  He claimed that the information is biased toward the construction of the driving range and demanded that it be replaced with his letter.

Gay Mac Loud presented the minutes for the April 1st meeting for approval. The only correction was the spelling of Phyllis Weisberg’s name. Phyllis moved acceptance of the minutes as corrected. Mike Lesko seconded and the motion was passed unanimously.

Regina Krummel and Galen Wells gave a report for the Scholarship Committee.  Regina reported that we had selected two candidates and proposed giving each of them half of the scholarship money for the year.   Regina and Galen both discussed the applicants and their qualifications.  The recipients are Alexa Brown and Paul Valdes-Rodriguez. Gay explained why she suggested two rather than one candidate.

Anthony moved that we give scholarships to the two candidates suggested by Regina and Galen and that the amount of the scholarship be $600 for each recipient.   Brian seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.  Linda will attend the Awards Assembly on June 4 to present the scholarships.

Treasurer Ken D’Arinzo reported that we have a balance of $6,879.26 in the treasury.  Anthony moved to accept the report, Brian seconded, and the report was accepted.

Anthony Carrano reported on the plans for a family friendly party for our Annual Meeting in September.  September 21st seemed to be the earliest possible date.  He had estimates for a bouncy house and other attractions.  Linda brought up the issue of a rain date.  Anthony said he would check to see if there is a rain date included in the price.  Ken, Linda, Gay and Galen agreed to help him on a committee.  The Board thanked Anthony for his work on this project.

Frank Forker reported on the CNNA meeting.  Issues discussed included the city’s new recycling program, a blight ordinance and the proposed driving range at Oak Hills.

Gay reported on the Spring Cleanup.  The areas included Fox Run School, the Land Trust area, the Meeting House, and Richards Avenue, especially in the wooded area by NCC.  Candide’s truck was filled one and one half times with trash.  Gay gave special thanks to Brian and his family, Candide, Regina, and Bill for their participation.  There also were 10 teens who made a huge contribution in cleaning trash from our neighborhood.

Regina brought up parking problem and trash on Fox Run during baseball games.  Gay said she would follow through and contact Public Works.

The Board agreed to post our survey question on the website despite the objection of Paul Cantor and his group.

Jim Forcellina asked to speak regarding two suggestions for the future:

  1.  Increase dues to $35 with the extra $5 to go to the scholarship fund.
  2. Require any applicants for the scholarship to be from a current dues paying family.

Brian agreed to be Secretary until January when Frank Forker will take over.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15.

Respectfully submitted,

Galen Wells, Secretary
