West Norwalk Association Board Meeting
March 7, 2011
Minutes of the West Norwalk Association
March 7, 2011
Those Board Members present were: Joel Zaremby, Galen Wells, Regina Krummel, Chris Potts, Ron Paladino, Bob Wagman, Candide Valadares, and Anthony Carrano. Ms. Nelson, and Mr. Martinez who are the Assistant Principal and Principal of Fox Run School, Jamie Herman and Gay Mac Leod were guests.
The President, Joel Zaremby, called the meeting to order at 7:35. Joel welcomed the Board and visitors to the meeting.
Galen Wells presented the minutes of the January meeting. Candide Valadares moved that the Board accept the minutes as presented. Bob Wagman seconded the motion and the motion was passed unanimously.
Linda Forcellina was in Florida and therefore, not able to attend the meeting. She has been in communication with Joel who said that there was now $6,080.58 in the treasury that there had been no significant transactions.
Gay Mac Leod reported that there were two events coming up. The first is the West Norwalk Cleanup as a part of Keep America Beautiful Day. The WNA will set up outside Fox Run School as we did last year. The second is an Arbor Day event on April 29th from 1:30 until 2:15. There will be posters, songs etc at Fox Run and a Colorado Blue Spruce will be planted. The Doubletree Hotel will pass out Chocolate Chip cookies.
Mr. Martinez thanked the WNA for tutoring help as well as its past donations. He will put an article in the Fox Run newsletter thanking us. He said that the CMT tests are next week and the whole school will be working on preparation. The proposed budget cuts will have a devastating effect on the school system, including Fox Run. The assistant principal may be part time and they will lose teachers. The school is very strapped for money but the parents, staff and teachers are all working together to try to make it work. Fox Run was recognized last year for closing the gap and they hope to keep up the good work.
Joel made a presentation to Mr. Martinez of the WNA donation of $300.00. Martin O’Connell made a motion seconded by Bob Wagman that we continue to sponsor a T-Ball team for $275 and the motion was passed unanimously.
Candide reported that the cost of buying 4 signs would be $200 each without tax and installation costs. He also reported that the Ambassador committee met at Linda Forcellina’s house. It was a good meeting and they discussed how to describe the accomplishments of the WNA. Joel agreed to help by drafting a list. The committee will meet again on March 21st.
There was a proposal to subdivide 57 Old Rock Lane into 4 lots. Joel is on the Planning Commission and he recused himself but, in the meanwhile, Chris Potts represented the WNA with these neighbors.
Galen and Chris presented a proposal to expand the territory of the WNA. After a vote a decision was made for a committee (Bob, Candide, Chris and Regina Krummel to draft a proposed letter to the membership describing the change. If the proposal and the letter is approved, the letter will be sent out with the Annual Meeting mailing, emailed and posted on the web site. If the membership does not object to the expansion, it will be voted on by the next Board at its second meeting after the Annual Meeting.
Bob reported on a flooding meeting held by Jim Himes. The Federal Government now has the authority to order the Army Corps of Engineers to evaluate the issue so we don’t have to wait for Mayor Moccia to act but there is no money to allocate to the project. The good news is that Himes remembers the issue and Chief McCarthy was at the meeting and expressed concern about the public safety issues involved.
Joel announced that our next meeting will be on April 4th.
Candide made a motion to adjourn and Martin seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45.
Respectfully submitted,
Galen Wells, Secretary
