March 5, 2012
Minutes of the West Norwalk Association
March 5, 2012
Board Members present were: Chris Potts, Galen Wells, Ron Brown, Martin O’Connell, Regina Krummel, Anthony Carrano. Gay MacLeod, Candide Valadares, Ron Paladino, and Ken D’Arinzo. Marie C. Meserole and Bob Wagman were guests.
President, Chris Potts, called the meeting to order at 7:35. He welcomed the Board and visitors to the meeting.
Galen Wells presented the minutes of the meeting, which were taken by Gay MacLeod. Candide Valadares moved to accept the minutes and Anthony Carrano seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously accepted.
There was no formal Treasurer’s Report. Chris Potts went over the numbers from the January Report. There have been no significant changes.
Ken D’Arinzo presented the report of the Condominium Committee, which is attached to these Minutes.
The Board asked the committee to answer the following questions:
- How many households are there in Ledgebrook
- How many of the households are renters
- How many people from Ledgebrook have recently been paid members of the WNA.
Ron Brown was added to the committee. The committee was also encouraged to add a member from Ledgebrook.
Bob Wagman gave a report on the 5 Mile River issue. He said that SWRPA had commissioned a study and much of the information is in. Too much of the land around the river is impervious. That is considered a concern if 10% is impervious and it is a real problem if 25% is impervious. The 5 Mile River is at 22% in some areas and as high as 30% in others. Fish life is impaired and there are problems with flooding and erosion. A draft report is under consideration and they expect to have a final draft by mid-May with the final report due in July. The report should include projects to improve the river basin on a 5 to 20 year timeline.
The Scholarship Committee made its report a copy of which is attached. Gay MacLeod said that she had been assured that even a small amount is appreciated. The Board decided to move ahead to provide a scholarship. A committee of Linda, Regina, Gay and Galen was established to set the criteria. A special meeting will be held to vote on the final proposal of the committee.
Gay discussed the annual Spring Cleanup. She presented a written description of the project that is attached.
Assignments for the day are in the report. In addition, Galen will bring coffee, donuts and bottled water.
The Board again discussed expanding the borders of the West Norwalk Association. A committee of Anthony, Ken, Galen and Candide was established.
Chris read an email from Peter Bondi asking the WNA to support continued funding of the Norwalk Museum. After a discussion a vote was taken with 6 board members voting no and 4 abstaining. The West Norwalk Association will not take a stand on the issue.
The meeting was adorned at 8:57
Respectfully submitted,
Galen Wells, Secretary
