West Norwalk Association Board Meeting
July 9, 2012
Minutes of the West Norwalk Association
July 9, 2012
Held at Linda Forcellina’s home
Board Members present were: Galen Wells, Ron Brown, Anthony Carrano, Gay Mac Leod, Candide Valadares, Ron Paladino and Linda Forcellina. Donna Dolle and Ken D’Arinzo, Regina Krummel had excused absences.
Co Vice-President, Linda Forcellina, called the meeting to order at 7:40 and welcomed the Board.
Linda said that Peggy Girard, who has been out of town on business and personal matters, has asked Linda and Gay to proceed with planning the annual meeting and newsletter.
Donna sent a Treasurer’s Report. The report was presented by Linda and unanimously approved. Linda will ask Donna to submit a short report in the future including only credit, debits, and the account balance to make the report easier to read.
Galen presented the Minutes of the June 4th meeting and they were unanimously approved.
Linda reported that a photo of the scholarship recipients with Linda will be posted on the web site. A photo of Gay giving a check to fox Run School also will be posted soon.
The letter to Isabelle that we agreed upon at our last meeting has not been sent. A friend of hers named Janet also inquired about the facebook page and the lack of response to Isabelle’s e-mails. Linda read the proposed letter to Isabelle. Ron Brown wanted it to be stronger. Candide made a motion to accept the letter as drafted. Gay seconded the motion. The Board voted in favor of sending the letter as drafted, except Ron Paladino, who abstained. Linda will send letters to both Isabelle and Janet.
Linda said that the WNA used to have a representative attend CNNA meetings. Anthony suggested that we rotate so that we have a representative each month. The Board agreed and Ron Brown offered to go to the next meeting. Anthony and Ron Paladino said they too would participate.
Gay brought up whether or not to take on the area on Richards and Scribner as an Adopt a Spot. Anthony has been cutting the grass and Gay has been picking up garbage. According to Gay, if we apply to make it official, we must submit a landscaping plan to the city and if we don’t keep it up, we can be fined after two warnings. It is a big space with as much mowing as a lawn. The Board decided not to take it on as an official Adopt a Spot but Anthony said he would continue to mow and pick up trash on a volunteer basis.
We had a complaint that an ad on our web site had disappeared, but it has since been restored. At this point, we do not have a policy for web site and newsletter ads. Anthony agreed to find advertisers and Gay will check with Peggy about previous charges.
Gay agreed to write the Presidents Letter for the Newsletter. Gay also will do the membership form. Linda will do an article on the scholarship program and Gay will do a piece on the donation of $300 to Fox Run School. The Board agreed that the Newsletter must arrive at peoples’ homes by September 13th. Therefore, the original should go to the printer by September 1.
As for the Newsletter articles, Ron Brown will write an article about history in West Norwalk and Ron Paladino will contact Lisa Cotto about an article on home safety. Anthony will contact Sarah Kline for an article about the Meeting House. Linda and Gay will include articles about the scholarship and Fox Run donation.
Linda said we should have a committee to review the By Laws of the Association because so many are out of date. We agreed that Linda would be chair with Ron Brown, Galen Wells and Ron Paladino on the committee.
The annual meeting will be on September 23rd at the Sons of Italy because Dolce is booked. The cost will be around $600. Galen will invite all of the Democrats running for office and Ron will invite the Republicans. Galen will also invite the new police chief.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:55.
Respectfully submitted,
Galen Wells, Secretary
