MINUTES OF THE WEST NORWALK ASSOCIATION
November 4, 2013

Board members present: Gay Mac Leod, Linda Forcellina, Ken D’Arinzo, Ron Paladino, Candide Valadares, Anthony Carrano, Regina Krummel & Brian Forschino.  Bill Krummel was a guest.

Co-President Linda Forcellina called the meeting to order at 7:30pm.

Anthony Carrano moved to accept the minutes.  Ron Paladino seconded the motion and the minutes were approved with minor changes.

Treasurer’s Report – Ken D’Arinzo

The Treasurer’s Report showed a current bank balance of $4,511.41 after October expenditures of $924.67 for items such as postage, website maintenance and insurance.  The Association received total donations of $700 during October with 2 donations of $100 coming from local West Norwalk businesses.  Candide Valadares motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report.  Brian Forschino seconded and the Report was approved as presented.  Linda will write thank you notes to those who contributed $100.

CNNA Meeting Update – Anthony Carrano

October’s CNNA meeting was cancelled due to the passing of former Board Member Diane Witkowsky.

Oak Hills Meeting Update – Ken D’Arinzo

There was no new news on Oak Hills.  The monthly meeting of the Oak Hills Authority was cancelled as it was scheduled on the date of a mayoral debate.

Family Fun Day Update – Anthony Carrano & Candide Valadares

Necessary paperwork needs to be submitted to the City with copy of insurance policy at least 3 months in advance of the proposed date of the event.  It is believed that there will be no cost in filing the paperwork.  Linda contacted State Farm to confirm that the Association’s current insurance policy would cover the proposed Family Fun Day.  The Board also discussed the staffing needs for the event, determining that additional assistance outside of Board Members will be needed.

The tentative date for the event is Saturday July 12th, the weekend following Independence Day.

Welcome Letters to New Neighbors – Linda Forcellina Linda wrote thirteen welcome letters to new West Norwalk neighbors personally inviting them to the Holiday Party.

Update on Tree Planting / Watering at Fox Run School – Gay Mac Leod

The City planted six trees on the Fox Run ground but has not watered them, so our assistance has been required to keep them watered.  Each tree requires approximately 1 gallon of water every 4 to 5 days.  Anthony Carrano, Gay, and Linda have been watering the trees over the past weeks.  As a result of the current drought, the trees still need to be watered for the next several weeks.  Linda Forcellina and Gay McLeod will continue to water the trees as necessary.

Holiday Party Update – Gay Mac Leod

The West Norwalk Association Annual Holiday Party is scheduled for Thursday, December 5th from 6 to 9 at Dolce on Weed Avenue.  Anthony will put up the signs well before the event.  We have a poster for the food drive and Linda will order one for dues collection and another to lead people to the table for fees for the party. The dues for 2014 are $40 for residents, $60 to be a “Good Neighbor” and $100 to be a “Community Builder.”  The fee for entering the Party will be $10 per adult regardless of whether annual dues for 2014 are paid the night of the event.  Annual dues will be collected at one table and fees for entrance to the party will be collected at another.  No one will be allowed to enter the Party unless the entrance fee is paid. Brian will purchase bracelets that will be used to identify those who have paid the $10.00 entrance fee so that there will be no one allowed into the event without payment.

The Association will also collect food for the Norwalk Food Pantry at a third table. Regina will monitor that table.

Candide Valadares and Brian Forschino agreed to collect entrance fees and Anthony Carrano and Ken D’Arinzo will collect 2014 annual dues.  Ron Paladino agreed to run the 50/50 raffle. Board members are to bring the name tags that Ken made for them for the Annual Meeting.  Other Board Members will bring supplies and will volunteer at other locations throughout the event.  As Co-Presidents, Gay and Linda will be hostesses and speak briefly.

An e-mail blast will be sent before the Party as a reminder of the party and  the Food Drive.  The Food Drive will also be mentioned in the party invitation and will be posted on the West Norwalk Association website and the WNA Facebook page.  We also will place an article in the Norwalk Hour.

Brien McMahon Band Can & Bottle Drive Update – Linda Forcellina

The Board would like to help the Brien McMahon Parents of the Band with their monthly Bottle and Can Drives that help subsidize the amounts band members need to pay to be members of the band.   Linda wrote an article about the benefits of the drive that is now posted on our website and she encouraged members to look at the website to see the recent information posted.  The drives are held on the first Saturday of every month at Fox Run School.  Candide agreed to post a brief message and reminder on our Facebook page.

Candide Valadares moved  to adjourn the meeting at 8:32pm and Brian Forschino seconded.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 2nd in the Library at Fox Run School. The final plans for the Holiday Party will be made at this meeting.
