Minutes of the West Norwalk Association
February 11, 2010

Those Board Members present were:  Joel Zaremby, Galen Wells, Regina Krummel, Margaret Karl, Ron Brown, Christopher Potts, Jeff Danziger, Martin O’Connell, Bob Wagman and Candide Valadares. Gay Mac Leod was a guest.

The President, Joel Zaremby, called the meeting to order at 7:35.  Joel welcomed the Board and visitor to the meeting.  He said that the PTO canceled their meeting so that the Principal of Fox Run School was not able to attend the West Norwalk meeting.  Therefore, we cannot present him with the check as we had planned.  We will present the check at the next meeting.

The Minutes of the January meeting were presented.  Ron Brown moved to accept the Minutes as written.  Martin O’Connell seconded the motion and the motion passed.  Chris Potts abstained.

Linda Forcellina was out of town so Joel Zaremby presented the Treasurer’s Report.  The donation to Fox Run School was discussed.  It was decided that the donation would be for Smart Boards and the PTO would match the donation.

Martin O’Connell moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report as drafted.  Bob Wagman seconded the motion and the motion was unanimously passed.

Joel Zaremby reported that the Fire Chief’s plan for improved fire protection for West Norwalk was to replace 4” hoses with 5” hoses.  The bigger hoses can be linked together and reach hoses that are very far from fire hydrants.  The request for funding the $40,000 expense will now go to the Council.  This may help us lower insurance costs.

Joel then shared the results of his research into the possibility that the WNA support a Little League team.  The cost to sponsor a team is $275.  Their t-shirts say West Norwalk Association on them and we can list them on our web site and they will have us on their web site as a sponsor.  We will also be on a sign as a sponsor and we can have a table at the picnic at the end of the season. Jeff Danziger moved to approve our sponsorship of a Little League team and Ron Brown seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

Gay Mac Leod reported on Keep America Beautiful Day.  She is on the Board of a nationwide non-profit that will sponsor a clean up on April 24th at 10:00 am at Fox Run School.  The WNA will have a table and coffee and donuts will be served.  People will be given bags and other equipment to pick up trash in the neighborhood.  Candide volunteered to bring his truck.  Jeff Danziger agreed to look into the cost of t-shirts for all of us to wear with the WNA logo on them.  Regina Krummel agreed to draft a letter to send to neighbors asking them to participate.

Committee assignments were discussed.  Bob Wagman will oversee the committees.  The Web Site Committee will be Gay McLeod, Chris Potts and Ron Brown.  The By Laws Committee will be Galen Wells, Regina Krummel and Joel Zaremby.  The Membership Committee will be Candide Valadares, Linda Forcellina and Martin O’Connell.  Joel will be responsible for the Newsletter.

Bob Wagman discussed CNNA and agreed to continue as the WNA representative.   Joel Zaremby also agreed that he would try to attend.

Bob Wagman brought up the flooding issue.  He said that Nora King, Common council Representative from District E, has expressed an interest in the problem but that out other Representative, Conroy had no interest in the issue.  Bob feels that he has done everything possible to resolve the flooding problem.  He feels he has hit a dead end.  Everyone will continue to think about what can be done.

The next WNA board meeting will be at Fox Run School on March 18th in the same room.

Jeff Danziger made a motion to adjourn.  Candide Valadares seconded the motion, which was unanimously passed.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45.

Respectfully submitted,

Galen Wells, Secretary
